On Thursday, October 1, 2026, all the third graders from Osaka City Sanekai Higashishou Elementary School visited the Chichigawa Dokuya-mae Shopping Street as part of their social studies field trip.
About 70 children visited the shopping district and learned about the tool store area.
I learned about the history of the shopping district and the ingenuity of the shops
Chita, the president of the Chidori Shopping Street Promotion Association, listened to a talk about the history of the shopping street and the history of Doro-ya Street.
Afterwards, the children divided into groups and visited the shops in the shopping district, interviewing them about the innovations they were implementing and the thoughts of the people working there.
After hearing stories from those involved in the shopping district, I actually walked around the shopping district and spoke with the store owners directly, allowing me to learn about “town” and “work” from a different perspective than my usual classroom lessons.
It was also a valuable opportunity for the Chichigyo Dokuya-guchi Shopping Street, as well as for the children to learn about the shopping street.
